REPORT OF TREE PLANTING IN DIKWA, BORNO STATE ON AUGUST, 13 2020

Introduction

Dikwa is one of the 27 local government areas of Borno situated in the central part of the state. It is 90 km from Maiduguri the state capital. The community based organization called Dikwa Development Association reached out to ACCREC-Maiduguri to intervene in their local government by planting tree. Basing their reason to the shortage of vegetations due to deforestation and the scourge of desertification is becoming severe.

Findings

In respond to the above, ACCREC-Maiduguri team lead by the regional director were in Dikwa to donate 150 tree seedlings, 1 kg each of jatropha and castor seeds. This is to improve the microclimate of the area, combat desertification, erosion and flooding.

ACCREC team paid a visit to the Shehu of Dikwa and intimate the Shehu of our intervention in the locality and the flag off was started at the front of the palace where 4 Tree seedlings were planted in honor of the Shehu who is represented by his secretary, another by ACCREC Regional Director, Dikwa CBO and Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Program (NEWMAP) Borno state.

Conclusion

The exercise was concluded by 12:40 pm, it was resolved that the CBO in collaboration with the secretary of the local government would ensure the proper utilization and sustainability of the project in Dikwa town.
